The Premier League season is quickly approaching and teams are gearing up for the season to start, fans are on the edge of their seats, and me? I am giving you a preview on what exactly we could see this season.
Manchester City have been the perennial winners for 4 seasons but it could be over for them. Arsenal have lost the title in the final moments in the previous three seasons. They will yet again be hoping to be close to City’s tail and finally put their reign to an end. The addition of Calafiori will make their defence even better than it was last year if Raya can also have a season similar to the previous season then their defence will be like a brick wall to build their title challenge around.
Manchester United will also be contenders in my opinion, they have made some key signings to help improve areas where they were weak. New striker Zirkzee will hope to repeat the season he was able to have in Italy and perform big for Manchester United. The signings of De Ligt and Masaroui will also help to reinforce a defence that was particularly weak last year. Kobbie Mainoo will also be hoping to improve his game off of Euro 2024 and become one of the best midfielders in the league already. To round out the most likely top 4 contenders, Liverpool will look to show that the legend of Klopp's team has not been lost under new manager Arne Slot.
Most Liverpool fans will be concerned by the club's lack of signings. However, I don't believe this is necessarily a bad thing. Slot is a manager who has been able to make do with what he has been given at previous clubs and what he has been given at Liverpool is a title-contending team. If he is not concerned that the club needs new signings I would argue this is because he and his team feel comfortable with the new tactics Arne Slot has brought in, but also, Slot is comfortable that the team will be able to compete without him needing to sign anyone as the team's current identity and situation is very good.
Other top teams who may compete for Europe are mostly London teams, Chelsea and Tottenham will be top teams as both their teams are talented. Chelsea however, may lack team cohesion due to the amount of signings that they have made before this season as well as letting a key player Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid. The quality of their team is undeniable though and it won't be a surprise to see them fighting for the top four. Tottenham have also made a key signing of Dominic Solanke who could be the new Harry Kane for the team. An out-and-out finisher who can also help create for his teammates. Spurs fans will be looking to see Solanke and Son recreate the relationship Son once had with Kane.
The claret and blue of Villa and West Ham will also be hoping to fight up the table. West Ham has made key signings like Fulkrug coming off a 20-goal involvement season. They've also signed players whose talent and experience in Wan-Bissaka will help to fight for the title and top 6. West Ham’s signing of Summerville will also add a youthful flair to their attack. Villa will also be able to compete due to their well-structured team and the rise has seen them go on in recent years. However, the loss of Diaby to the Saudi Pro League may be a hindrance to their ability. However, key signings like Amadou Onana will help reinforce where the team is weak and allow Emery to push his team in both the league and in Europe as they will be competing in the Champions League.
Finally, the newest richest club in the country. Newcastle United will be hoping to fight for Europe as they have in previous seasons. The return of Sandro Tonali will most likely strengthen their team and they can hope to put up a fight in what is an extremely competitive mid-table in the Premier League with teams like Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Brighton and Fulham all hoping to finish well in the league and beat the other teams mentioned.
The most likely clubs to be relegated can be hard to predict in a league that is as competitive as the Premier League but, it could be Southampton, Ipswich and Wolves. However this could be completely wrong and we can only tell once the season has begun and teams' performances can be seen.
